One of my most enjoyed fangames in my fangaming career.
Off the bat, you wake up in a storage room full of spikes, that don't actually kill you. It tells a little story about what "BlueMage" did to the KTBM world. "They" ask you to help overcome every obstacle and boss planted by himself to defeat BlueMage once in for all to free the poor souls trapped in the Labyrinth of spikes and blocks.
You start off with a quick "tutorial" stage before entering the main game, showing what might lay before you. Traps, loads of traps.
After the tutorial, you start off in Stage 1, with a couple screens of Enjoy The Game 2. This introduces you to the "moving object" gimmick, which will take place in a few other places, and as foreshadowed by the tutorial stage, there are also traps. In the 3rd screen of Enjoy The Game 2, there are invisible blocks to the left of the screen on the 2nd layer, testing your exploration skills and curiosity. This secret gives you the power of seeing the boss' health bar, so you know just how close you are to beating it. The rest of the stage tests you on what you've learned.
The first boss is Mr. Shine and Bright. This boss has quite a few different attacks, showing you the capability of what these bosses can pull off, and some of these attacks will come back in later bosses, in different forms, or as references.
Stage 2: BlueMage picks some "interesting" games to recreate, and like Stage 1, the secret is in the first recreated game, on the 2nd screen. This secret is more clear to the normal player, easing up on you if your didn't find the first secret, or to reward you for your curiosity. The secret gives you "autofire". Obviously it is nerfed autofire, making sure you don't destroy bosses so quickly. The rest of stage is pretty tame, allowing for you to relax and enjoy some of the needle it has to offer.
The second boss is Master Core, a reference to one of BlueMage's older games, "The Mage's Lair". This boss is the first boss in the game to introduce phases, avoidance, and it seems heavily touhou-inspired.
Stage 3 begins with a few original screens. The secret, following the pattern of the others, has also become more visible to the normal player, it being in plain sight as an alternate, harder path, and it being very early on in the stage. It's a mixture between medley screens, and also original screen with tilesets, which have been used in the game previously, and tests you on your ability to backtrack through the stage.
The third boss. An apple, cherry, potato? Whatever you want to call it, it's a very short and to the point avoidance, giving you a break from the real bosses to enjoy this masterpiece.
Stage 4-A/B. These stages is filled with original platforming, with references to other fangames. Why did the Mastermind BlueMage arrange these rooms to give a sensation of déjà vu? Maybe to test the player on their ability to deal with these odd emotions? Maybe just for pure fun? We're not sure. What we do know, is that these screens combine everything you've learned in the game, into 2 separate parts of Stage 4.
The miniboss of Stage 4 is Nue Houjuu, from Touhou. This boss is the first to introduce a new kind of mechanic, one directed towards the Kid, infinite jumping. With this new skill, you are tested to see how you deal with whatever Nue throws at you.
BlueMage. This is it. This is the moment you have been waiting for. To kill the BlueMage, is your objective. This is your quest, your desire, your goal. To save all of the innocent souls.
Immediately, after shooting the save, the fight begins, almost like BlueMage had planned all this. It starts raining down projectiles, and text above the kid tells you that you can walk off the screen and wrap around to the other side. The 4 souls of BlueMage reunite, as from you shooting the save, you alerted them that an intruder has come to slay their lord. The souls attack you one by one with their power they harnessed from other fangames bosses. Geezer, the last power to show himself, and as you defeat him, you are teleported with the souls' last effort, to an avoidance. After this avoidance, you are teleported back, with another save. Why BlueMage put another one here? We don't know.
The 2nd part of the fight begins, and you are bombarded wave after wave by different elements and attacks from previous bosses. Every time BlueMage summons another attack, he has to lower his shield, giving you an opportunity to send in a couple shots.
You slay the BlueMage, and while he fades away, he summons his last minion, Influka. With her power to summon pillars straight from the ground, she is ready to rumble. After she bombards you with avoidances, she fades away, along with BlueMage and his souls.
Since you slayed the lord of this fangame world, naturally his Labyrinth starts crashing down, and you need an escape plan. The spare spikes BlueMage had were thrown into the escape route, making your path much harder, due to karma.
You escape safely, as you fall into a pit full of spikes, the spikes pity you, and let you fall to safety.
Upon "finishing" the game, you are teleported to a hub area. Apparently, while you were progressing through the game, the innocent souls were building up a safe area for you to be in when finally slayed the Mastermind. They also discovered another path, this leading to an alternative dimension, with even more challenge with a new overlord, Archmage. This new character in the plot is extremely powerful, able to summon the power and creativity from other fangame gods.
You delve into these depths, and find a boss, who's name is "Sakuya Izayoi", another Touhou. Apparently this overlord is also a fan of those games. Also this Touhou likes trains, for no reason that kid can come up with.
When you finish Sakuya off, you are warped to a new area. This area was created with the creativity, the soul, and mind of many fangame gods. BlueMage, Wolfy, Skulldude, PlasmaNapkin and Fawful. After you tackle these obstacles in a manageable fashion, you come across the last few steps before Archmage. The Final 5. First, The DJ. He plays his freshest beats, with the hope the projectiles that form from his music, to end your misery. Alas, he didn't bring the full song, with him, and his plans were ruined.
The next boss, is Fake Nue Houjuu. She has ticking time bomb in the background, giving you only a few minutes to defeat her. It seems like her attacks don't have much diversity, so you dodge them pretty easily. You defeat her, and you move on to Yakunan.
Yakunan summons her 2 assistents, Rin and Len. They provide the hardest challenge you've had yet. But still, even after all of this bloodshed, you manage to win.
The Archmage is only a few steps away. She appears, and the fight begins. You immediately notice that she isn't joking around, and that she is trying her hardest to stop you. She throws the craziest patterns. The craziest boss yet, you think to yourself. Near the end, you can see the life fading away from Archmage, and you know you will win. In her very last moments, she comes back, hard. And with the power she had been generating, she hits you with an unavoidable blast, insta-killing you.
And that, my friends, is KTBM.

Really enjoyable medley game. Nice screen choices, with plenty of interesting changes, and a lot of original stages mixed in. Bosses were interesting and mostly fair (I have my complaints about Blue Mage's shooting phase, though). This also one of the few fangames where you have a clear objective: To defeat the Blue Mage. There isn't too much of a story, but at least it doesn't feel like you're commiting genocide with no purpose at all. Difficulty curve feels off, but that's pretty much my only real complaint about the game.
Definitely a game that I enjoyed a lot. Would recommend.

Amazing game. One of my favorite medley games out there.Needle was awsome and fun.guest stages felt abit messy but still awsome.ARCHMAGE is the extra boss that you get if you beat the guest stages and the 2 other bosses after that.Thats the hardest boss in the game.It was really unfair especially at the end.Oh and at the end you die automaticly, that means you win thats suppose to happen.Would recomend to everyone.
